Lizzie Gold, Ziggy's Art Bus's inspiration.

Lizzie

“Ziggy’s Art bus is a place for kids like Lizzie and her siblings to create, and to process, and to heal, and to share.” Lizzie’s Mom

Lizzie Gold was our inspiration! Lizze was also the first child to come and experience Ziggy’s Art Bus and its capacity to provide joyful art experiences. “My seven year old, Lizzie, was born with a very rare chromosome abnormality. She is deaf and blind and is completely dependent on us 24 hours a day. One of Lizzie’s great loves in life is art she loves painting! And when you are as limited physically as she is, it is a beautiful thing to see. She paints her soul. Ziggy’s Art Bus helps her chase her joy and her passion. Ziggy’s also gives us a shared experience and something tangible to hold on to when Lizzie’s time with us is over.” Emily Gold

In this video Emily Gold explains the importance of art in her daughter’s life and how Ziggy’s Art Bus will benefit children like Lizzie.

Addison with one of Ziggy's Art Bus's volunteers -- having fun with art at Crescent Cove

Addison

“She sure loved the shake-shake-shake part!” — Ziggy's Volunteer

“Addison’s art journey with Ziggy’s was filled with joy and shared moments, exemplifying our belief that the process of creating art is as enrichingor more sothan the artwork itself. Due to limited mobility and communication abilities, Addison chose her desired color palette using her eye gaze. Her sweet smile shone brightest when our volunteer ‘shook-shook-shook’ the paint bottles — a simple silly action that sparked joy and was a moment Addison clearly adored. After paint colors were selected, our volunteer gently held Addison's hand, helping to put paint to canvas. Sharing this experience alongside her grandmother, was also a heartwarming reminder of the profound impact of connection and creativity. Addison's story is a testament to how Ziggy's Art Bus creates spaces where art transcends physical limitations, fostering bonds and smiles that linger long after the paint dries.” — Ziggy’s staff

Delight and smiles when a Ziggy’s Art Bus volunteer “shake-shake-shakes” bottles of paint for Addison, one of Ziggy’s children with limited mobility.

Andrea

"She's sunshine with a heartwarming smile!" — Ziggy's Volunteer

"During Andrea’s first visit with Ziggy’s Art Bus  we quickly discovered her love for Scooby-Doo! We sketched Scooby (and played with the colorful marker caps!) while listening and laughing to the iconic theme song! Andrea reminds us all that even in the smallest moments, there's room for immense joy and creativity.” — Ziggy's Volunteer

Dominick with a Ziggy’s Art Bus volunteer

Dominick | one of Ziggy’s children

He’s such a fan of Ziggy’s!”  — Ziggy's Volunteer

"Dominick is this amazing ball of energy - so full of zest. It was truly heartwarming to see his excitement. After we made a set of bean bags together (he chose the colors and learned how to stitch!), he decided he wanted to craft four more sets for each of his family members, to bring a bit of Ziggy's magic home with him. We only had 20 minutes left in his session, but he was such a quick stitcher and so efficient, we managed to finish all the gifts for his loved ones. The love he showed in wanting to share these creations with his family was just so palpable."— Ziggy's Volunteer

Felix has fun on Ziggy's Art Bus with a Ziggy's volunteer and Board member

Felix

“It’s a challenge to find art activities our child can do, and even harder to get there. We love Ziggy’s for making art accessible to all!” Felix’s Mom

“Haley Brunelle has seen just how much art can make a difference through her son, Felix, 5. ‘Felix was born with a one-of-a-kind chromosome deletion, presenting as several different physical challenges, medical complexity and the need for a 30-plus strong medical team to follow him on the regular,’ says Brunelle. When Felix encountered Ziggy’s Art Bus, his creative self took flight! Felix’s first creation at Ziggy’s was a birdhouse. Brunelle says, ‘Although Felix is nonverbal, he reminds me of his art when we’re watching the birds. He points to the birdhouse and then to himself—he’s clearly quite proud of his work.’ ” Hanna McDaniels, St. Croix Valley Magazine

“We had so much fun!” Hazel’s Mom

“For Hazel’s seventh birthday celebration Ziggy’s Art Bus came to do a few crafts with our girls. The projects turned out so adorable! Such a wonderful organization!” Hazel’s Mom Gina

Joshua

“He's an artist extraordinaire!" — Ziggy's Volunteer

“It was a delight to work with Joshua when he was at Crescent Cove Respite and Hospice for Kids. His attention to detail in drawing and painting was truly remarkable. Joshua's face lit up with joy when he received compliments, and his smile was infectious. He was so dedicated to his projects that he couldn't wait to take them home and continue working on them.” Ziggy's Volunteer

Makenzie and her family

“Ziggy’s provides a place where my child can forget about her medical issues and just be a kid for an hour!” Makenzie's Mom

“Ziggy’s Art Bus is amazing, and my girls looked forward to it every week this summer at Ronald McDonald House. Thanks for providing such an amazing experience for these kids!” Ann Weaver Wynegar

Mari paints with one of Ziggy’s Art Bus volunteers

“Mari loves to stitch her dreams!" — Ziggy's Volunteer

"Mari shared her embroidery dreams with Ziggy's volunteers, so we embarked on embroidery crafting adventures almost each time we visited with her at Crescent Cove Respite and Hospice for Kids. Two of Mari’s favorite projects were a cozy pillow adorned with a celestial constellation for her beloved cat, and a vanity bag embellished with her name and cute felt daisies!” Ziggy's Volunteer

Riley proudly holds her creation high with a happy smile.

Riley has some mad scissors skills — she just snips up a storm of creativity! — Ziggy's Volunteer

The first time Riley created art with Ziggy’s Art Bus, her face just lit up! Riley digs into the projects with enthusiasm, always eager to try something new. Her joyful and spirited approach to art is a vivid reminder of the sheer delight found in creation and self-expression." — Ziggy's Volunteer

Tana

“I can’t put into words the meaning of the work Ziggy’s Art Bus does.” — Tana’s Mom

“Ziggy’s finds a way to work with even the most fragile kids. As our Tana was passing away, over the last 48 hours of her life, they came and traced hand prints of Tana, her Dad, and myself and created [legacy art] for us.”— Stacey Vogele

Tobias

“One of the things that I love about Ziggy’s is that everyone has a chance to create something. Young or old, disability or not, there are no limitations to make something beautiful.” Tobias’ Mom

“Six-year-old Tobias Walsh was born with monosomy-6 trisomy-18, a rare genetic disorder that also impacted his brother, Landon, who passed away in 2013. Parents Shannon and Jon share that they are grateful for every day they have with Tobias. ‘He just has the best attitude. He wakes up with a smile every day,’ Shannon says. It’s the same smile that lights up his face when crafting with Ziggy’s Art Bus. Tobias’ sister Bella also loves crafting. The Walsh family cherishes that Ziggy’s includes each of their children in the process of creating memories in a safe and inclusive environment.” Paige Schuller & Hanna McDaniels, White Bear Lake Magazine
